With all avenues exhausted, the president accepts defeat – for now.
With Congress voting to certify the Electoral College results, President Donald Trump has conceded his run for a second term. Due to Twitter blocking his personal account in the wake of yesterday’s protest, the president released a short statement via deputy communications director Dan Scavino. It reads:
Statement by President Donald J. Trump on the Electoral Certification:
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”
The statement will no doubt please many in the media, but it is not a cut and dried concession. President Trump’s eye for showmanship is on full display. By saying that it is the end of “the greatest first term,” it certainly leaves the door open for Trump to consider a later run: Trump – The Sequel!
